Down to Earth Dog Food and Treats - Home made and hand delivered to your doorstep
Why is home made better than commercial?

Commercial dog food is designed to travel well, to be cheap, to have a long shelf life, to be easy and to have the appearance of having all the nutritional elements that are necessary for your dog.

In reality commercial dog food is a booming 16 billion $ industry. The rules and regulations that these companies have to respect are minimal, this leaves a lot of space for manipulation and false marketing.

Most of the indications on commercial dog food packaging are for the dog owners benefit, not the actual pet. These companies thrive on our emotions, they say things that make us feel better, this allows us to feel like we are doing the right thing for our pets that we adore so much.
Would you rather feed your pet 4oz of real chicken meat or 4oz of ground chicken feathers and corn?

All three ingredients contain protein, but they are definitely not equal. Ounce for ounce, the real chicken provides more protein, and the protein is highly digestible and usable, allowing pets to eat smaller quantities to receive the optimal level of protein.

Not all protein is created equal

Higher protein percentages do not mean higher quality protein

Other nutrients levels are necessary for overall health and the proper use of protein by the body.
Switching to
Down to Earth's dog food

A sudden change in food can lead to intestinal upset. Therefore, a pet needs to be switched to a new food slowly, gradually over the course of 7-10 days. We suggest using your free samples to make a mixture that contains 25% of the new food and 75% of the old food and feed that for several days. Then make it 50-50 for several days, then 75% new food to 25% old food for several days. Then you can start feeding 100% the new food.
